I came across this tweet about Joey Bose's philosophy on PhD supervision and really liked it.
When I was thinking about starting my PhD, I promised myself I'd be intense, because I love my work and want this journey to be challenging and rewarding. I know it will only be that if I keep chasing the dream of becoming the best in the world in my area, by working closely with a great and supportive advisor, collaborating with others, and standing on the shoulders of the researchers before me.
I've always believed that if you commit to something as long and demanding as a PhD, you have to give it everything you've got. The only thing harder than aiming high is settling for mediocrity.
